John Ray Grisham Jr., geboren 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, ist US-amerikanischer Bestseller-Autor. Er ist besonders bekannt für seine Justizthriller und Kriminalromane und zählt eine Gesamtauflage von über 300 Millionen Exemplaren. Grisham studierte Buchhaltung an der Mississippi State University und schloss 1981 sein Jurastudium ab. Danach war er fast ein Jahrzehnt lang als Anwalt tätig und spezialisierte sich auf Strafverteidigung und Personenentschädigung. 1983 bis 1990 folgte eine Karriere als demokratischer Politiker. Seinen ersten Roman verfasste Grisham neben seinem Beruf und publizierte diesen, nachdem es von etlichen Verlagen abgelehnt wurde, 1988 unter dem Titel "Die Jury". Mit dem Folgeroman "Die Firma" wurde Grisham schlagartig zum Bestseller-Autor, als er die Filmrechte an Paramount Picture verkaufte. Der Schriftsteller festigte seinen Ruf als Meister des Justizthrillers mit den in weiterer Folge erschienenen Bestsellern "Die Akte" und "Der Klient". Insgesamt wurden neun seiner Romane, darunter "Die Kammer", "Der Regenmacher" und "Das Urteil", verfilmt. Zuletzt erschienen die Bücher "Forderung", "Das Bekenntnis" und "Die Wächter".
