I am on a monstrous machine that is taking me thousands of miles away from you.Did you stay to see us take off? After I left you I had to wait in the passengers' lounge for nearly an hour, and I never spent a more miserable hour in my life! Parting may be "sweet sorrow," but I don't mean to be parted from you again. The next time I hold you in my arms you won't get away-ever!Merstham, 29th April 1949Dear Paul,I wonder where you are now. I suppose still traveling ever farther away from me.You know, I just didn't get used to the idea that you were going-even right at the end when you kissed me goodbye, I just felt numb. When I went back to the field alone to wait, the truth came over me and I felt so miserable.
