Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Symbolic Character of the Sacred Scriptures by Abiel Silver is a book that explores the symbolic nature of the Bible. The author argues that the Bible is not just a collection of historical and moral teachings, but also a complex system of symbols that convey deeper spiritual truths. Silver examines the use of symbols in the Old and New Testaments, and shows how they are used to convey important messages about God, humanity, and the world. He also explores the role of symbolism in the rituals and practices of various religions, and shows how these symbols can be used to deepen our understanding of the divine. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the deeper meaning of the Bible and the role of symbolism in religion.1863. A collection of sixteen lectures characterizing the various symbols found within scriptures. The author revised and reprinted his original work to make changes in order to prevent any misunderstanding of the mission of Swedenborg or his doctrines. Each lecture notates the scripture passage in which it discusses. A sample of the topics found in the lectures includes the origin of language, symbolic meaning and use of horses, analogy between material universe and the human mind, and the correspondence of water and the divine teachings thereby. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
