Lake Rose Davis is the only child of former hippies who settled in a small Idaho mill town in the late 1960s. As her story moves back and forth between the distant past and Lake's present, Passanante shows us that the path to understanding is never a smooth one, and that love is often far more complicated and multi-textured than we can imagine. My Mother's Lovers is rewarding and engaging reading, a first novel of unusually satisfying maturity.
