Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What They Said ...An interesting aspect about Mr McIntyre's recollections, in this most enlightening and absorbing book, is that he doesn't recall the past with romantically tinted glasses - a trap that so many memoirs fall into. It is a volume that adds significantly to that genre of publications regarding Ireland's social history ... going back to William Carlton. It is local but many of the author's observations are national, even universal. - B.K.This volume is both interesting and educational. It contains a montage of memories from a county Sligo childhood ... a series of compelling recollections ... a comprehensive collage of life in rural Ireland, especially in the 1960s. - T. Mac T.You can read this tome as one complete book or as a series of most engaging short stories. It is a terrific memoir about growing up in rural Ireland and life there in the second half of the 20th century. - P. L.Only someone born and reared in the heartland of rural western Ireland could compile a volume such as this ... Mr McIntyre has a very keen eye and a great memory. - J.H.This volume wouldn't be out of place on any school curriculum, embracing as it does history (especially social history) nature/environmental studies and biology. - K. Nic P.Mr McIntyre can be harsh ... but a love of the land and his home area permeates this entire volume. As typified in his other publications, there is an openness and brutal honesty in this book. - J. Mac C.
