In this book, Schuyler Colfax delivers a speech in the US House of Representatives regarding the highly contentious issue of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Colfax argues that the act violates fundamental principles of the Constitution and undermines the moral authority of the United States. He recounts the struggles of the people of Kansas to resist the encroachment of pro-slavery forces, and calls on his fellow congressmen to take action to restore the integrity of the Union.
