Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"The 'Also Rans'" by Don C. Seitz offers a compelling and insightful exploration of the men who sought the presidency of the United States but failed to achieve it. Moving beyond the standard narratives of victory, Seitz provides detailed biographical sketches of influential figures such as Aaron Burr, Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, and Horace Greeley. These individuals, though often overshadowed by their successful rivals, played pivotal roles in shaping American political thought and national policy.Through a series of engaging portraits, the work examines the personal ambitions, political climates, and historical circumstances that led these distinguished statesmen to the brink of the nation's highest office, only to see it slip away. Seitz delves into the character and legacy of each subject, illustrating how their careers influenced the trajectory of the country despite their electoral defeats. "The 'Also Rans'" serves as a vital contribution to American historical literature, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of democracy and the enduring impact of those who campaigned from the sidelines of history. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
