Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Orphee" is a seminal work of avant-garde drama by the multifaceted artist Jean Cocteau. Reimagining the classical Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Cocteau transports the legendary poet into a modern, surreal setting. The play explores the boundaries between life and death, the nature of artistic inspiration, and the sacrifices demanded by the muse.Through a series of dreamlike sequences and symbolic encounters, the protagonist navigates a world where mirrors serve as portals and death is a mysterious, bureaucratic figure. Cocteau's "Orphee" is celebrated for its innovative use of stagecraft and its poetic dialogue, marking a significant departure from traditional theatrical realism. As a cornerstone of twentieth-century literature, the work delves deep into the subconscious, offering a haunting meditation on love and the power of the afterlife. This play remains an essential piece for those interested in the evolution of modern drama and the enduring influence of mythological themes in contemporary art. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
