Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"The Joyous Friar: The Story of Fra Filippo Lippi" is a compelling narrative biography that breathes life into the vibrant world of the Italian Renaissance. Through the lens of A. J. Anderson's evocative prose, readers are introduced to the turbulent and passionate life of Fra Filippo Lippi, the 15th-century Carmelite monk and master painter whose art and scandalous romance defined an era of artistic revolution. The work explores Lippi's journey from his humble beginnings in a Florentine monastery to his rise as one of the most celebrated artists of the Quattrocento. Anderson captures the essence of the "joyous friar," a man torn between his religious vows and his irrepressible human desires. The story delves into his early training, his patronage by the powerful Medici family, and his famous relationship with Lucrezia Buti, the nun who served as the model for some of his most sublime Madonnas.Rich in historical detail and atmosphere, this work offers a vivid portrayal of the tensions between secular beauty and sacred duty in Renaissance Italy. "The Joyous Friar: The Story of Fra Filippo Lippi" remains a fascinating study of creative genius and human frailty, making it a valuable resource for those interested in art history and classical storytelling. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
