Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Fifty Years of Chatauqua" provides a comprehensive look at one of the most significant educational and social movements in American history. Written by Hugh A. Orchard, the book traces the first half-century of the Chautauqua institution, from its humble beginnings as a Sunday School assembly to its expansion into a nationwide cultural phenomenon. It explores how the movement brought lectures, music, and performance to rural communities, fostering a unique spirit of community learning and intellectual engagement. This work serves as an essential historical record of the Chautauqua idea, documenting the speakers, organizers, and audiences who shaped the landscape of American adult education during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
