Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Memoirs of a Revolutionist" offers an extraordinary firsthand account of the clandestine world of Russian radicalism during the late nineteenth century. Written by the prominent activist Vera Figner, this autobiography traces her journey from a selfless medical student to a central leader within the Narodnaya Volya, or the People's Will. The narrative provides a vivid exploration of the socio-political climate of Imperial Russia and the desperate measures taken by those seeking to dismantle the Tsarist regime. The work is divided into a compelling two-part structure: first, the intense years of revolutionary planning and the dramatic events surrounding the assassination of Tsar Alexander II; and second, a harrowing yet resilient reflection on the author's two decades of imprisonment in the Shlisselburg Fortress. Her writing captures the intellectual fervor, the ethical dilemmas, and the immense personal sacrifices inherent in the struggle for change. "Memoirs of a Revolutionist" stands as a vital literary and historical contribution, providing deep insight into the precursors of the Russian Revolution and the indomitable spirit of political dissent. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
