Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Memoirs of Missionary Priests" is an exhaustive and poignant chronicle documenting the lives and deaths of individuals executed for their Catholic faith in England between 1577 and 1684. Compiled by Bishop Richard Challoner, this work serves as a primary historical record of the intense persecution faced by missionary priests-both secular and regular-as well as lay Catholics of both sexes during and after the Elizabethan era.Through detailed accounts of trials, imprisonments, and final testimonies at the scaffold, the work preserves the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for their religious convictions. The text provides invaluable insight into the socio-political tensions of the post-Reformation period, the underground operation of the Catholic Church in Britain, and the legal landscape of the Penal Laws. This collection remains a significant religious and historical document, offering a window into a period of extreme religious upheaval and the enduring resilience of faith under duress. It is an essential resource for those interested in English history, hagiography, and the history of religious dissent. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
