Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Mid Snow and Ice; The Apostles of the North-West" is a compelling historical account of the dedication and perseverance of Catholic missionaries in the vast, frozen reaches of the Canadian North-West. Written by Pierre Duchaussois, this work chronicles the experiences of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate as they navigated the extreme conditions of the Arctic and Subarctic regions to establish missions among indigenous populations. The narrative details the immense physical challenges faced by these pioneers, from enduring sub-zero temperatures and treacherous ice to traversing thousands of miles of wilderness. Beyond its focus on religious history, the book provides valuable ethnographic and geographical insights into the early 20th-century North, documenting the interactions between European clergy and the First Nations and Inuit peoples. It serves as both a record of religious expansion and a testament to human endurance in one of the world's most inhospitable environments. Through vivid descriptions of the landscape and the daily lives of the missionaries, "Mid Snow and Ice; The Apostles of the North-West" offers a unique perspective on the social and spiritual history of Northern Canada. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
