Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Modernism in the English Church" provides a comprehensive examination of the development and influence of modernist thought within the Anglican communion during the early twentieth century. Written by the distinguished scholar Percy Gardner, this work offers a primary look at the movement that sought to bridge the gap between traditional Christian doctrines and the advancements of modern science, history, and philosophy. The text explores the intellectual challenges faced by the Church of England as it grappled with critical approaches to scripture and the shifting cultural landscape of the era. Gardner articulates a defense of a liberal religious outlook, arguing for a faith that is both historically grounded and intellectually progressive. He delves into the philosophical foundations of modernism, its impact on the liturgy, and its role in the broader context of English religious life. This work remains a significant historical and theological resource, providing essential insights into the evolution of liberal theology and the ongoing dialogue between faith and reason.
