Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Plays of the Moscow Art Theatre Musical Studio" offers a compelling look into the experimental fusion of drama and music that defined one of the most influential periods in Russian theatrical history. This collection presents the repertoire of the renowned Musical Studio, an offshoot of the Moscow Art Theatre founded by Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko to apply the psychological depth of the Stanislavski method to the world of opera and lyric theatre. The volume includes key adaptations and scripts that showcase the studio's commitment to "synthetic" theatre, where song, movement, and acting are seamlessly integrated. From innovative takes on classic operatic themes to bold new dramas, these works reflect the avant-garde spirit of early 20th-century Moscow. Readers will find scripts that challenged traditional operatic conventions, emphasizing the actor-singer's emotional truth and the dramatic integrity of the performance.Essential for students of theatre history, Russian literature, and musicology, this work captures the creative energy of a studio that sought to redefine the possibilities of the musical stage. By exploring these plays, one gains insight into the revolutionary techniques that continue to influence global performance and stagecraft today. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
