Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Where Love Is" is a poignant one-act play by the renowned theatrical director and playwright B. Iden Payne, adapted from the celebrated short story by Leo Tolstoy. Set in the humble cellar of a Russian cobbler named Martin Avdeitch, the drama explores deep themes of faith, loss, and the search for spiritual meaning in the wake of personal tragedy. As Martin anticipates a visit from the Divine, he encounters a series of weary travelers and neighbors in need, discovering that the presence of God is often found in the simplest acts of kindness and human compassion. This adaptation captures the soulful essence of Tolstoy's original vision while translating it into a compelling format for the stage. It serves as a powerful meditation on the Christian ethic of loving thy neighbor and the transformative power of charity. Payne's script provides a sensitive portrayal of a man moving from despair to a renewed sense of purpose, making it a significant work in early 20th-century religious drama. Perfect for students of theater and those interested in the dramatization of classic literature, "Where Love Is" remains a timeless reflection on the universal truth that wherever love resides, God is present also. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
