Über den Autor
Henning Mankell, geboren 1948, lebte als Schriftsteller und Theaterregisseur in Schweden und Maputo, Mosambik. Neben über 40 Romanen zählt sein Werk auch etliche Theaterstücke sowie Kinderbücher. Mit seiner Kriminalromanreihe um Kommissar Kurt Wallander wurde er zum internationalen Bestseller. Mit 17 Jahren kam Mankell nach Stockholm und arbeitete als Regieassistent am Riks Theater. 1948 begann seine eigenständige Tätigkeit als Autor und Regisseur. In seinen ersten Publikationen lässt sich die Mentalität der 68er Bewegung erkennen. 1972 begab sich Mankell auf seine erste Afrika-Reise und fand seine zweite Heimat in Mosambik. Der Kontinent Afrika wurde Schauplatz und Thema vieler seiner Romane, wie in "Der Sandmaler", "Die rote Antilope" und "Das Auge des Leoparden". 1986 übernahm Mankell die Leitung des einzigen professionellen Theaters "Teatro Avenida" in Mosambik. Henning Mankell verstarb im Alter von 67 Jahren am 5. Oktober 2015 in Göteborg.
