No "I love you" whispered at bedtime. No soft hands brushing hair off my face. Love, in our house, was strictly practical: food on the table, clean clothes, and a spotless home. It came with chores and very strict rules. Mum was bitter, and it showed. Feelings weren't discussed.I do not want this book to finish on a sad note. In fact this is just the first book. I intend to write a follow up book as time goes on. Eventually, dementia will try to take everything from Mum, and people might think she will more than likely end up in a care home. But I do not want that to happen. I promised her years ago, back when she first got her early diagnosis, that I would do everything in my power to keep her in her own home.To be honest, all the doctors, nurses, and assessors say that she is doing marvellously, and that is because we keep her stimulated every single day. It is hard, of course it is hard. But who else can do it? Who else has she got to make sure she is fed, watered, clean, and for the most part, happy?Like I said at the very beginning, Mum was not a good mum to me growing up. But her shortcomings back then do not stop me from being a good daughter to her now.
