Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

County Leitrim, 1786.On the slopes of Sheemore Hill, Robert Keon shoots and kills George Nugent Reynolds.History remembers him as a murderer. But was the whole truth ever heard?Reynolds carried a horsewhip, and witnesses said he struck at Robert with it. Yet Robert never gave the jury his own account of what happened on the hill. His counsel argued that the evidence pointed to manslaughter, or even accidental homicide. The jury deliberated for just fifteen minutes before returning a verdict of murder.Robert Keon went to the gallows, and one version of what happened on Sheemore Hill became history.More than two centuries later, Maud inherits a folder of research left by her late father. Among the papers is the story of Robert Keon and, beside a witness deposition, a single handwritten word: Liar?Unable to let the question rest, Maud follows the surviving evidence. Court testimony, newspaper reports, and witness accounts draw her deeper into a family history where reputation, power, and prejudice may have shaped not only what was recorded, but what was forgotten. The dead cannot be questioned, and the surviving record does not surrender its secrets easily. What happened on Sheemore Hill?Inspired by the real trial of Robert Keon and drawn from surviving eighteenth-century court testimony, The Truth of Sheemore is a dual-timeline historical novel that asks whether the verdict recorded by history also recorded the truth.
