Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What if the journey that changed your life was the one you never finished? At twenty-six, Jason leaves London with a round-the-world ticket, a backpack and a year of freedom ahead of him.Bangkok is only supposed to be the beginning. But Thailand gets under his skin. Sleeper trains, neon streets, chance encounters, complicated relationships and the pull of people he never expected to care about keep drawing him back. Hong Kong becomes the furthest point he ever reaches. Australia, America and the rest of the world remain names on an unused itinerary.Eventually, Jason returns to Britain and builds the life he was supposed to have.A career. Relationships. Routine. Years of ordinary living. Then, more than a decade later, a severe case of chickenpox leaves him critically ill in hospital. Tests reveal the truth: Jason is HIV positive, with an immune system so badly damaged that his chances of survival are frighteningly low.Suddenly, the past is no longer the past.Jason is forced to look back at the people he loved, the women he left behind, the promises he broke and the question he may never be able to answer: When did HIV enter his life? And what became of the people who once meant everything to him?Inspired by true events, Killing the Generals is a powerful novel of travel, love, regret, survival and the long shadow of HIV stigma. It is a story about the lives we plan, the lives we actually live, and the things we carry with us long after the journey ends.
