The Dawn of the Second Reformation in Spain: Being the Story of Its Rise and Progress, from the Year 1852 (1871) is a historical book written by Maria Denoon Peddie. The book chronicles the religious movement that emerged in Spain in the mid-19th century, which sought to reform the Catholic Church and bring it more in line with Protestant beliefs and practices. Peddie provides a detailed account of the key figures and events that shaped the movement, including the publication of Protestant literature, the establishment of Protestant churches, and the persecution of those who converted to Protestantism. She also explores the political and social factors that contributed to the rise of the movement, such as the liberalization of Spanish society and the influence of foreign missionaries.Throughout the book, Peddie offers a nuanced perspective on the Second Reformation in Spain, highlighting both its successes and challenges. She also draws connections between the movement in Spain and similar movements throughout Europe and the United States.Overall, The Dawn of the Second Reformation in Spain is a comprehensive and engaging account of a little-known chapter in Spanish history, shedding light on the complex interplay between religion, politics, and social change in the 19th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
