Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Philoctetes of Sophocles is a book that presents the play Philoctetes by Sophocles along with a commentary that has been abridged from the larger edition of Richard C. Jebb, which was published in 1906. The book has been edited by Evelyn Shirley Shuckburgh. The play Philoctetes is a tragedy that tells the story of Philoctetes, a Greek hero who was abandoned on an island after being bitten by a snake. The play revolves around the efforts of Odysseus and Neoptolemus to retrieve the bow of Heracles from Philoctetes, which is needed for the Greeks to win the Trojan War. The commentary in the book provides insights into the play, its themes, and its characters. The abridged commentary makes the book more accessible to readers who may not be familiar with the larger edition of Jebb's commentary. The book is a valuable resource for students of Greek literature and anyone interested in the works of Sophocles. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
