Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

""The Rape of Helen: A Mock Opera"" is a satirical play written by John Breval in 1737. The play is a parody of the classical Greek tragedy ""The Rape of Helen"" and features a cast of characters that are comically exaggerated versions of those in the original story. The plot centers around the abduction of Helen by Paris, which leads to the Trojan War. However, in this version, the characters are portrayed as bumbling fools, and the events are played for laughs. The play is written in a mock-opera style, with frequent musical interludes and songs that further add to the humor. Breval's work was highly regarded in its time for its clever wordplay and witty satire, and it remains a notable example of 18th-century English literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
