Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Apple of Discord, written by Charlotte Mary Yonge in 1864, is a historical fiction novel set in ancient Greece. The story revolves around the mythological tale of the golden apple that was inscribed with the words ""to the fairest"" and was given by the goddess Eris to three goddesses - Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite - who all claimed it for themselves. This led to a dispute among the goddesses, which ultimately led to the Trojan War.In the novel, Yonge explores the consequences of this mythological tale and its impact on the lives of ordinary people. The story follows the lives of three women - Eunomia, Irene, and Dorothea - who are all affected by the events surrounding the golden apple. Eunomia is a young woman who is in love with a soldier named Leontius, who is sent to fight in the Trojan War. Irene is a priestess of Athena who is torn between her duty to her goddess and her love for Leontius. Dorothea is a young girl who is caught up in the chaos of the war and must navigate the dangers of living in a war-torn country.Through the lives of these three women, Yonge explores themes of love, loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. She also gives readers a glimpse into the world of ancient Greece, with its gods and goddesses, its myths and legends, and its political and social structures.Overall, The Apple of Discord is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that combines history, mythology, and fiction to create a rich and engaging story. It is a must-read for anyone interested in ancient Greece or historical fiction. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
