Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The History of King Lear: A Tragedy is a play written by Nahum Tate and first performed in 1681. It is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play King Lear, with significant changes to the plot and characters. Tate's version of the play was popular in the 18th century and was the standard version performed until the mid-19th century. In Tate's version, the ending is significantly altered, with Lear surviving and Cordelia marrying Edgar. The play also includes a love story between Edgar and Cordelia, which is not present in Shakespeare's original. The character of the Fool is removed, and several scenes and characters are condensed or removed entirely. Despite its differences from Shakespeare's play, Tate's version of King Lear was well-regarded in its time and is still studied and performed today. It is considered an important example of the adaptation and interpretation of classic works of literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
