The Orb of Light: Or The Apocalyptic Vision (1860) is a novel written by A Lady, which tells the story of a young woman named Edith who is visited by an angelic being and given a vision of the end of the world. The novel is set in the mid-19th century and explores themes of religion, morality, and the apocalypse.Edith is a devout Christian who is struggling with doubts about her faith. She begins to have strange dreams and visions, and one day she is visited by an angelic being who shows her a vision of the end of the world. The vision is terrifying, but it also gives Edith a renewed sense of purpose and faith. As Edith tries to make sense of her vision, she encounters a number of other characters who are also struggling with their faith. There is the wealthy and arrogant Mr. Harcourt, who believes that he can buy his way into heaven; the humble and devout Mrs. Wilson, who is deeply concerned about the fate of her soul; and the skeptical Dr. Dalton, who is convinced that there is a rational explanation for everything. As the novel progresses, the characters confront their own mortality and try to come to terms with the end of the world. They grapple with questions of sin and salvation, and ultimately must confront the reality of their own spiritual condition. The Orb of Light is a thought-provoking and deeply spiritual novel that explores some of the most fundamental questions of human existence. It is a powerful meditation on faith, morality, and the end of the world, and is sure to leave a lasting impression on readers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
