The Tragedy of Sophonisba is a play written by Scottish poet and playwright James Thomson in 1730. The play is based on the historical figure of Sophonisba, a Carthaginian noblewoman who was married off to a Numidian prince but later became embroiled in a conflict between Rome and Carthage. The play follows Sophonisba's struggles as she tries to navigate the political and personal tensions of her situation, ultimately leading to her tragic demise.
