Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Social Organization And The Secret Societies Of The Kwakiutl Indians is a book written by Franz Boas in 1897. The book is a comprehensive study of the social structure and cultural practices of the Kwakiutl tribe, a Native American community living in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Boas, a renowned anthropologist, provides a detailed account of the Kwakiutl's social organization, including their kinship patterns, political structure, and religious beliefs. He also delves into the secret societies of the tribe, which were an integral part of their culture and played a significant role in their social and religious practices. The book is based on Boas' extensive fieldwork among the Kwakiutl people, during which he lived among them, learned their language, and observed their customs and traditions. The text is richly illustrated with photographs and drawings, providing a visual representation of the Kwakiutl way of life. Overall, The Social Organization And The Secret Societies Of The Kwakiutl Indians is an important contribution to the field of anthropology, providing valuable insights into the cultural practices of a Native American community that was little understood at the time of its publication. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
