Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Weight Of The Name is a novel written by the French author, Paul Bourget, in 1908. The story revolves around the character of Julien Sorel, a young man who is determined to rise above his humble origins and make a name for himself in society. He believes that the key to his success lies in marrying into a wealthy and influential family. Julien's plan seems to be working when he meets the beautiful and wealthy Mathilde de la Mole. However, he soon discovers that Mathilde's family is not as welcoming as he had hoped. The de la Mole family is steeped in tradition and they are reluctant to accept Julien, who comes from a lower social class. As Julien struggles to win over Mathilde's family, he begins to realize that his obsession with social status and wealth is driving him further away from his true self. He also realizes that the weight of his name and social status is not as important as he had thought. The novel explores themes of class, ambition, and identity. It is a thought-provoking and insightful commentary on the social conventions of the time. Bourget's writing is elegant and nuanced, and he creates complex and memorable characters. The Weight Of The Name is a must-read for anyone interested in French literature or social commentary. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
