Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Wreck of the Hesperus is a narrative poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and published in 1886. The poem tells the story of a ship called the Hesperus, which sets sail from a New England port with its captain and his daughter on board. The ship encounters a fierce storm at sea, and despite the captain's warnings, the daughter insists on staying on deck to witness the storm. The ship eventually crashes into a reef and sinks, killing the captain and his daughter. The poem is famous for its vivid imagery and powerful storytelling. Longfellow uses language to create a sense of foreboding and tension as the ship approaches its doom. He also draws on themes of hubris and the power of nature to create a cautionary tale about the dangers of ignoring warnings and taking risks.Overall, The Wreck of the Hesperus is a classic work of American literature that continues to captivate readers with its haunting imagery and timeless message. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
