""The Song of Roland"" is a historical epic poem that tells the story of the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 AD between Charlemagne's army and the Basque rebels. The poem is named after the hero of the story, Roland, who is a brave and loyal knight in Charlemagne's army. The story follows the events leading up to the battle, including the betrayal of Roland's friend Ganelon, who arranges for the Basques to ambush Charlemagne's army.
