Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Memoir Of Eliot: Apostle To The North American Indians is a historical account of the life and work of John Eliot, a Puritan missionary who devoted his life to spreading Christianity among the Native American tribes in New England during the 17th century. The book, written by Martin Moore and originally published in 1842, chronicles Eliot's early life, his conversion to Puritanism, and his decision to become a missionary to the Native American population. The book explores Eliot's efforts to learn the language and customs of the indigenous peoples he was trying to convert, as well as his struggles to gain their trust and overcome cultural barriers. It also delves into the political and religious climate of the time, including the tensions between the English colonizers and the Native American tribes. Throughout the book, Moore provides a detailed account of Eliot's accomplishments, including his translation of the Bible into the Algonquin language, his establishment of several ""praying towns"" for converted Native Americans, and his efforts to promote education and literacy among the indigenous population. Memoir Of Eliot: Apostle To The North American Indians is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in the history of colonial America, the Puritan movement, or the interactions between European settlers and Native American tribes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
