Staatkundige Geschriften, originally published in 1784, is a collection of political writings by Simon Van Slingelandt. The book contains a series of essays and letters written by Slingelandt, a Dutch statesman and diplomat, on various political topics of his time. The topics covered in the book include the balance of power in Europe, the role of monarchs in government, the importance of maintaining a strong military, and the relationship between religion and politics. Slingelandt also discusses the Dutch Republic's relations with other European powers, particularly France and Great Britain.Throughout the book, Slingelandt advocates for a strong and stable government that prioritizes the interests of the state above all else. He argues that political leaders should be guided by reason and a sense of duty to their country, rather than personal ambition or self-interest.Staatkundige Geschriften is considered an important work in the history of Dutch political thought and provides valuable insights into the political debates of the late 18th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
