Common Sense and Spiritual Insight: Baccalaureate Sermon (1886) is a book written by John Bascom, an American philosopher and educator. The book is a transcript of a sermon that Bascom delivered to a graduating class in 1886, where he discusses the importance of combining common sense and spiritual insight in one's life. Bascom argues that common sense, which he defines as practical wisdom, is necessary for success in the material world. However, he also emphasizes the importance of spiritual insight, which he defines as an understanding of the deeper meaning of life and the universe. According to Bascom, combining common sense and spiritual insight leads to a more fulfilled and meaningful life.Throughout the book, Bascom draws on examples from history, literature, and philosophy to illustrate his points. He also discusses the role of education in developing both common sense and spiritual insight, and encourages the graduating class to continue their pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.Overall, Common Sense and Spiritual Insight: Baccalaureate Sermon (1886) is a thought-provoking and inspiring book that encourages readers to seek a balance between practicality and spirituality in their lives. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
