The book provides a detailed account of the recusant Catholic community in Lancashire during the 16th and 17th centuries. The author draws upon the records of the Crosby family, who were prominent Lancashire Catholics, to give insight into the lives of Catholics during a time of religious persecution in England. The book covers topics such as the impact of the Reformation on Lancashire, the role of the Jesuits in the Catholic community, and the persecution faced by Catholics under the reign of Elizabeth I. The author also includes biographical information on the Crosby family and their involvement in the Catholic resistance.
