Über den Autor

Adalbert Stifter wurde am 23. Oktober 1805 in Oberplan im Böhmerwald geboren. Er war österreichischer Schriftsteller, Lyriker, Maler und Pädagoge und zählt zu den bedeutendsten Autoren des Biedermeier. Im Jahr 1826 kam Stifter nach Wien und studierte an der juristischen Fakultät der Uni Wien. Unter einem Pseudonym veröffentlichte er seine ersten Gedichte und widmete sich auch der Malerei. Noch zu Lebzeiten wurde er als Dichter bekannt, welche sein bildungspolitisches Engagement bis heute in den Hintergrund drängt. Zu seinen Werken zählen Erzählungen, Novellen und Romane, die sich vor allem durch seine Naturdarstellungen auszeichnen. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken zählen die Erzählungssammlung "Bunte Steine" (enthält "Granit", "Kalkstein", "Turmalin", "Bergkristall", "Katzensilber" und "Bergmilch") sowie der Roman "Der Nachtsommer". Trotz fortgeschrittener Krankheit veröffentlichte Adalbert Stifter noch einige Werke, ehe er sich durch den Schnitt eines Rasiermessers am Krankenbett das Leben nahm und am 28. Jänner 1868 verstarb.
