Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Johnston of Warriston is a book written by William Morison in 1901. The book is a comprehensive biography of Sir Archibald Johnston, a prominent Scottish lawyer and politician who played a significant role in the Covenanting movement during the 17th century. The book provides a detailed account of Johnston's life, from his early years as a student at the University of St. Andrews, to his rise to prominence as a lawyer and politician in Edinburgh. It explores his involvement in the Scottish Parliament, where he became known for his opposition to the policies of King Charles I and his support for religious freedom and the rights of the Scottish people. The book also delves into Johnston's role in the Covenanting movement, which sought to defend the rights of the Scottish Presbyterian Church against the encroachments of the English monarchy. It describes his participation in the drafting of the National Covenant of 1638, which declared the independence of the Scottish Church from the English Church, and his subsequent involvement in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, which pitted the forces of the English monarchy against the Scottish Covenanters.Throughout the book, Morison provides a vivid portrait of Johnston's character, describing him as a man of great intelligence, integrity, and courage, who was deeply committed to the cause of Scottish independence and the defense of the Presbyterian faith. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Scotland, the Covenanting movement, or the life and career of one of Scotland's most important political figures. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
