The Benefactor: A Tale of a Small Circle is a novel written by Ford Madox Hueffer, originally published in 1905. The story is set in London and revolves around the lives of a group of artists and intellectuals who are part of a small circle. The main character, Julius Le Vallon, is a wealthy and eccentric man who decides to use his wealth to help his friends in the circle. He becomes their benefactor, providing them with financial support and helping them advance in their careers. However, as time passes, Julius begins to realize that his generosity is not always appreciated or reciprocated, and he starts to question his role in the group. The novel explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and the complexities of human relationships, as well as the challenges faced by artists and intellectuals in turn-of-the-century London. The Benefactor is considered one of Hueffer's most accomplished works and is a classic of early 20th-century literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
