Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

""The Daughter of St. Mark"" is a three-act grand opera seria written by Michael William Balfe and first performed in 1844. Set in Venice during the 17th century, the story follows the tragic love affair between the nobleman Enrico and the beautiful but impoverished Marietta, who is revealed to be the long-lost daughter of the Doge of Venice. As Enrico and Marietta struggle to overcome the obstacles to their love, including the disapproval of Marietta's father and the machinations of a jealous rival, the opera explores themes of class, loyalty, and sacrifice. Balfe's score is known for its lush melodies and dramatic choral passages, and the opera has been praised for its emotional intensity and vivid portrayal of Venetian life and culture. ""The Daughter of St. Mark"" remains a beloved work of the 19th-century operatic repertoire, and continues to be performed and recorded today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
