Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Jayhawker is a historical novel written by John Andrew Martin and published in 1910. The story is set during the American Civil War and follows the life of a young man named David Ellsworth, who becomes a jayhawker, a guerrilla fighter who operates behind enemy lines in Kansas and Missouri. David is forced to take up arms after his family is killed by Confederate soldiers. He joins a group of jayhawkers led by the charismatic Captain Quantrill and becomes embroiled in a violent conflict with the Confederate army and their sympathizers. As the war rages on, David faces difficult moral choices and grapples with the consequences of his actions. He falls in love with a young woman named Alice, whose family is sympathetic to the Confederate cause, and must navigate the tensions between their two factions. The Jayhawker is a gripping tale of love, war, and the struggle for freedom in a divided nation. Martin's vivid descriptions of the landscape and the characters' experiences bring the era to life, and the novel offers a unique perspective on the Civil War from the point of view of the jayhawkers, a group that has often been overlooked in historical accounts. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
