The Magnetic Girl is a novel written by Richard Marsh and first published in 1903. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the life of a young girl named Rosamund Cunliffe who possesses a unique ability to attract and repel objects using her mind. Rosamund is discovered by a showman named Professor Gervase who sees the potential in her abilities and takes her under his wing. She becomes a popular attraction in his travelling show, performing feats of magnetism for audiences across the country. However, Rosamund's powers soon attract the attention of a wealthy and influential man, Sir Hector L'Estrange, who becomes obsessed with her and seeks to control her abilities for his own gain. As Rosamund struggles to navigate her way through the dangerous world of Victorian showmanship and intrigue, she must also confront the dark secrets of her past and the true nature of her powers. The Magnetic Girl is a suspenseful and atmospheric tale that explores themes of power, exploitation, and the struggle for independence in a society that seeks to control and suppress those who are different. It is a fascinating glimpse into the world of Victorian entertainment and the complex relationships between performers, audiences, and those who seek to exploit them. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
