Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

""The Pope: And His Patron"" is a historical book written by George Otto Trevelyan in 1862. The book explores the relationship between Pope Clement XIV and his patron, Lorenzo Ricci, the Superior General of the Jesuits. It delves into the political and social context of the time, including the conflict between the papacy and the Jesuits, as well as the wider tensions between the Catholic Church and the Enlightenment. Trevelyan provides a detailed account of the events that led to the suppression of the Jesuits by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, including the controversy surrounding the order's involvement in politics and their perceived threat to the power of the papacy. The book is a fascinating insight into the complex world of 18th-century European politics and religious conflict. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
