The Provincetown Plays, Third Series: The Two Sons, Lima Beans, Before Breakfast (1916) is a collection of three plays written by Neith Boyce. The plays were first performed in Provincetown, Massachusetts, in 1916 and were part of a series of plays that were known for their experimental and avant-garde style. The first play in the collection, The Two Sons, is a drama that explores the relationship between two brothers who are very different from each other. One is a successful businessman, while the other is a struggling artist. The play delves into themes of jealousy, rivalry, and the pursuit of happiness. The second play, Lima Beans, is a one-act comedy that takes place in a small town. The play revolves around a group of women who are preparing to host a church social. However, their plans are disrupted when they discover that the lima beans they have been cooking have gone bad. The play is a humorous commentary on the social conventions and expectations of small-town life. The final play in the collection, Before Breakfast, is a one-act drama that tells the story of a woman who is trapped in a loveless marriage. The play takes place entirely in the couple's apartment and is a poignant exploration of the loneliness and despair that can come with a life that feels unfulfilled.Overall, The Provincetown Plays, Third Series: The Two Sons, Lima Beans, Before Breakfast (1916) is a thought-provoking collection of plays that offers a glimpse into the experimental and avant-garde theater of the early 20th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
