Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Water Waifs: A Story Of Canal Barge Life is a novel written by Emma Leslie and published in 1882. The book tells the story of two orphaned siblings, Tom and Maggie, who are forced to live on a canal barge with their uncle, a rough and unkind man. The children face many challenges as they adjust to their new way of life, including harsh weather conditions, long hours of work, and the constant threat of danger on the waterways. Despite their difficult circumstances, Tom and Maggie find comfort in the friendships they make with other barge workers and the kindness of strangers they encounter along the way. The book explores themes of family, resilience, and the power of human connection in the face of adversity. It is a poignant and insightful portrayal of life on the canals in the late 19th century, and a testament to the enduring spirit of those who lived and worked on the water. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
