""When Grandmamma Was New: The Story Of A Virginia Childhood"" is a memoir written by Marion Harland, originally published in 1899. The book recounts the author's childhood experiences growing up in Virginia during the mid-19th century. Through a series of anecdotes, Harland paints a vivid picture of life in the South before and after the Civil War. She describes the plantation lifestyle, the social customs, and the relationships between family members, friends, and slaves. Harland also reflects on the changes that took place during her lifetime, including the end of slavery and the rise of industrialization. The book provides a unique perspective on Southern culture and history, and offers a glimpse into the daily lives of those who lived through one of the most turbulent periods in American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
