Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

"Tales of the I Ching" is a remarkable collection of orchestral works composed by David Petersen and inspired by the titular ancient Chinese classic of wisdom and divination. As with the text that served as its inspiration, the score is intended to take listeners on a profound journey through the shifting landscapes of human experience. Fusing Eastern philosophy with elements of the Western classical tradition, each of the 72 evocative soundscapes reflects the timeless principles of the I Ching's trigrams and hexagrams, evoking the elemental energies of heaven, lake, fire, thunder, wind, water, mountain, and earth - in all combinations. Performed with virtuosic flair, these captivating compositions invite the listener to discover the transformative power of music as a gateway to self-knowledge and spiritual understanding. The music itself is richly textured and dramatically expressive, with the different instrumental voices weaving intricate contrapuntal lines that build in complexity and intensity, yet provide scope for the interpretation of dynamics. There is a wonderful sense of ebb and flow, tension and release, as the music navigates the polarities and transitional states central to the I Ching's teachings. From the bold, heroic strains of "The Creative" to the more introspective, subtle expressions of "The Gentle", the composer displays an impressive mastery of orchestral color and a keen sensitivity to the symbolic resonances of each hexagram. This is music that seems to emanate from a deep, almost primal well of spiritual wisdom, inviting the listener on a transformative journey of self-discovery. I hope you enjoy getting to know this 6-month labor of love.
