Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

In recent years, many Schliemann scholars have tried to explain - or explain away - Schliemann's enormous debt to Calvert, but few - if any - have studied Calvert himself. This definitive volume, the first and only full biography of Frank Calvert, discusses the Calvert-Schliemann relationship for the first time from Calvert's perspective. It also reveals the full range of Calvert's personal accomplishments and relationships, and traces his collaboration with some of the great scientists of his day. In an objective, well researched and fully substantiated study with over thirty photographs and documents, the author reveals Calvert as an important scholar in his own right and a pioneer of Trojan studies. The book contains an extensive bibliography, a chronological index of Calvert's writings, and a number of Calvert's previously unpublished texts. "A permanent contribution to the history of field archaeology." William M. Calder III.
