Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Story of the Innumerable Company and Other Sketches is a collection of short stories and essays written by David Starr Jordan, an American ichthyologist, educator, and peace activist. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part containing the titular story of the Innumerable Company, a group of souls who gather together to share their experiences and knowledge about life and the universe. The story is a philosophical exploration of the nature of existence, consciousness, and the meaning of life. The second part of the book contains a series of essays and sketches that cover a wide range of topics, from science and nature to politics and social issues. Some of the essays are autobiographical, chronicling Jordan's own experiences and reflections on life, while others are more analytical and critical of contemporary society. The essays touch on themes such as education, evolution, religion, and the role of science in modern society.Overall, The Story of the Innumerable Company and Other Sketches is a thought-provoking and insightful collection of writings that offers a glimpse into the mind of a brilliant thinker and writer. Jordan's prose is elegant and eloquent, and his ideas are both profound and accessible. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in philosophy, science, and the human condition.1896.
