Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Three Plays for Puritans is a book written by Bernard Shaw, which is the third volume of his collected plays. The book contains three plays that are intended to challenge the beliefs and values of the puritanical society. The first play, The Devil's Disciple, is set during the American Revolution and tells the story of a man who is mistaken for a rebel and decides to play the part. The second play, Caesar and Cleopatra, is a historical drama set in ancient Egypt that explores the relationship between Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. The third play, Captain Brassbound's Conversion, is a comedy about a wealthy Englishwoman who travels to North Africa to seek revenge on a man who wronged her, but ends up being converted to Islam. Overall, Three Plays for Puritans is a thought-provoking collection of plays that challenge the conventional thinking of society.1900. Most of Shaw's early plays were either banned by the censor or refused production. With Plays: Pleasant and Unpleasant he sought a reading audience and also began the practice of writing the challenging, mocking, eloquent prefaces to his plays, which were sometimes longer than the play itself. This volume contains The Devil's Disciple, a Meloarama; Caesar and Cleopatra, a Page of History; and Captain Brassbound's Conversion, a Play of Adventure.
