Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A Blot in the Scutcheon is a play written by Robert Browning, first performed in 1843. The play is set in the 17th century in England and tells the tragic story of the Earl of Leicester's family. The Earl's sister, Mildred, falls in love with a soldier named Mertoun, but their relationship is forbidden by her brother. When Mildred becomes pregnant, Mertoun is accused of seducing her and is challenged to a duel by the Earl. The play explores themes of family loyalty, honor, and the consequences of actions driven by pride and jealousy. Browning's use of poetic language and dramatic tension make this play a classic of Victorian literature.Oh, Mildred, have I met your brother's face? Compelled myself--if not to speak untruth, Yet to disguise, to shun, to put aside The truth, as--what had e'er prevailed on me Save you to venture? Have I gained at last Your brother, the one scarer of your dreams. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
